About BHUMC Social Justice Action Group

Our Mission

To help in supporting the underprivileged, those who are less understood and those who are less respected in our community, state, country and world through action.

Who are we?

We are a group of Burnt Hills United Methodist Church and community members working to pursue social justice work.

We recognize that Burnt Hills United Methodist Church has a diverse congregation, and not all see the need for engagement in issues addressed by “Church and Society” type efforts. We are a group that reflects those views and associated ministry for the part of the membership which does; particularly those that wish to put effort into such ministry.

 Who's welcome?

If you feel that you can support our mission, then you are welcome.

 What do we do?

 Our Actions:

 Why was this created?

Throughout fellowship many members of BHUMC found that we held similar views, and felt a need to actively pursue social holiness. We also found that many were privately pursuing the actions of social justice, but that we could continue to grow in our faith by combining the two.

Here are two examples of fellowship which prompted the creation of this group:

During discussions regarding our Welcome Statement, it was shown that some members of the congregation feel that we should be more active in the field of Social Justice.

Conversations with multiple young adults who are not currently active in this or any church have revealed that a focus on this type of ministry is something they are seeking.  Our hope is to reach out to this population allowing interested non-members to find a place to explore their faith and possible calls to become active in the body of Christ and to join with us in creating.
